Thierry Henry has no desire to join WhatsApp group with Martin Keown - "He talks too much"

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has joked he wouldn't join a WhatsApp group with former team-mate Martin Keown because he's too chatty.

Keown and Henry enjoyed significant success together at Highbury, winning two Premier League titles and two FA Cups after the latter joined the club in August 1999.

Henry was speaking at the launch of Amazon Prime Video's winter sports schedule with Manchester United legend and former France team-mate Patrice Evra.

When asked by presenter Gabby Logan if he was in a WhatsApp group with Keown, the Arsenal icon replied: "Martin? He was a hell of a player.

"[But] ooof, Martin… sometimes he needs to take a break. Because Martin could speak for England.

"No, no. I am definitely not in a WhatsApp group with Martin. Lovely guy though, amazing player. But not that."

And Keown, who made nearly 350 appearances for Arsenal over two spells, has been equally as complimentary about Henry in the past.

In a December 2014 column for the Daily Mail, the retired defender wrote: "Earlier this season I picked Thierry Henry as my greatest-ever Premier League striker.

"Thierry had it all. Pace, power, skill, intelligence - it was the perfect combination. But he backed up all that talent with trophies.

"When he was in the zone, he was almost unstoppable and single-handedly won us matches on more than one occasion."

Although the Arsenal legends aren't in a WhatsApp group together, Evra is in one with several of his former United colleagues.

The left-back had a close bond with his teammates under manager Sir Alex Ferguson and ex-captain Rio Ferdinand has since formed a group chat.

Evra won five Premier League titles, three League Cups and the 2008 Champions League during his eight-and-a-half-year spell at Old Trafford.

He told Logan: "For many players, when they retire, what we miss the most is the dressing room. All the banter, all the stories. Everything happens inside.

Keown can "speak for England" - according to Henry (Reuters)

"I spoke with [Edwin] van der Sar when he retired and I said, 'How are you doing?' And he said, 'Patrice, I just miss you guys.'

"We are lucky. The United group, we still have a WhatsApp group. We are everyone, so every morning we just laugh off each other. We have still got that.

"It is most of the players from 2008 when we won the Champions League. It is really active. Every two minutes. Rio created it.

"We just keep connected and have a laugh. It was not just a team, it was like a family."
