Thierry Henry has key role to convince £47m Edu transfer target to choose Arsenal over Liverpool

Jonathan David has given Arsenal yet another incentive for Edu to push through with completing the signing and replacing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

The Canadian was recently pictured wearing a shirt that featured a Thierry Henry knee-slide celebration in an Arsenal jersey.

David has been heavily linked with a move to the north London side and will be available to sign in the summer transfer, with the Gunners being a realistic destination for him.

Arsenal have an emerging striker crisis brewing at the club, and David’s clear support for the Gunners should certainly play a factor if Mikel Arteta has identified the youngster as a transfer target.

The Gunners were put on red alert recently after David’s agent Nick Mavromaras said he was available for a transfer when speaking to Radio Canada.

“For us, the objective is to finish the season in Lille, but it will be his last season there for several reasons,” Mavromaras said when speaking about David’s future in France.

Arsenal certainly value David as a quality player, as according to The Athletic, the club has been a long-time admirer of the young striker since his time in Belgium with Gent before he joined Lille in 2020.

David has been performing excellently this season in Ligue 1 and in the Champions League , as he played a pivotal part in the club’s European knockout stage progression.

He has been extremely prolific this season, which shows he has developed from year previously where he did not get off to the greatest of starts at Lille, however in this campaign, the Canadian international already has 11 goals in Ligue 1 this season, which is the highest in a league that boasts the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi.

David wearing the Arsenal shirt that contains Henry certainly isn’t a coincidence or the first time that he has left signals that he is a major fan of the club.

"European clubs made me dream," he told L’Equipe earlier this year.

"I watched Barca a lot, Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal, with Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira."

Arsenal are in desperate need of a striker as it looks likely that the club’s most senior strikers in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette will both be departing the club in the next couple of transfer windows, due to the contract situation of the Frenchman and Aubameyang’s recent disciplinary issues.

A price of £47m is being quoted for David, and with the quality, he has been showing this season, it is a deal that the Gunners should be looking to pursue.
