Thierry Henry has given Mikel Arteta the transfer incentive to sign dream Arsenal £50m striker

Arsenal have been given a boost in their pursuit for Swedish striker Alexander Isak after he hinted that he was a Gunners fan due to his admiration for Thierry Henry.

The 22-year-old is rated as one the best young strikers currently in world football, and has attracted the interest of Mikel Arteta's side.

The north London club will need to sign a forward in the summer, due to the emerging striker crisis at the club.

Isak explained that the former Arsenal legend was his idol when speaking to Swedish YouTube channel Min Stora Dag, as he said: “ I have a lot of football players who I have looked up to and have taken a lot from.

But if I have to name one I would say Thierry Henry who I have really liked all the time and where I see many qualities that I have tried to follow.”

Isak currently plays for Real Sociedad and scored 38 goals in 102 appearances for the La Liga side. He has attracted the attention of many of the best clubs around Europe with Manchester City also previously being linked with the striker.

He would solve Arsenal’s imminent striker crisis, as Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette’s contracts are set to expire, which would leave Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the only senior striker in the squad.

Folarin Balogun is another forward at the club but his lack of experience means that he is not yet ready to compete for that number nine shirt for a club of Arsenal’s size, despite the excellent potential he has shown.

A lot of fans have been calling for Isak to be the striker who will dethrone Aubameyang in that starting striker role and the news of him labelling Henry as his idol will certainly raise the interest of Arsenal fans.

The Swede has been excelling at international level alongside club level, which highlights he is ready for the Premier League.

There will also be an extra incentive for him to join the club and link up with former teammate Martin Odegaard, with who he created an excellent connection when the Norwegian was on loan at Real Sociedad.

The signing of Isak will be a big statement signing for the Gunners, who are finally starting to excel under Arteta and qualification for the European spots will certainly help in their pursuit for the 22-year-old.
