Thierry Henry explains why he doesn't compare himself to Man Utd legend Ruud van Nistelrooy

Former Arsenal forward Thierry Henry has revealed he doesn't compare himself with Manchester United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy as he doesn't class himself as a natural goalscorer.

Both strikers were crucial to the success of both Arsenal and Manchester United during their spells in the Premier League and regularly battled for the golden boot award.

Henry scooped the prize in his first season at Arsenal with 24 goals, just one more than the Dutchman could manage at Old Trafford. However, one year later, the roles were reversed - Van Nistelrooy pipped him to the crown by one strike.

Eventually, both players left for La Liga - Henry joining Barcelona, Van Nistelrooy moving to Real Madrid - and the legendary French forward explained why he doesn't compare himself to the former United man during a podcast appearance with Jamie Carragher.

"I don't see myself as a natural goalscorer - like a Shearer," he told The Greatest Game.

Carragher replied: "Do you see Ruud van Nistelrooy as a natural goalscorer?"

Henry: "Ruud? Yes."

The former Liverpool defender pointed out that Henry had outscored his rival in four out of five seasons yet he doesn't class himself as a natural goalscorer.

Henry believes his role differed to Van Nistelrooy's.

He said: "But in my mind, I don't see myself like that.

"I always say I was just trying to help my team and obviously I did score some goals.

"But I always try to bring the other part of the game, coming into midfield, taking the ball from the right or left to make things happen."

The conversation continued and Henry highlighted he spent a large chunk of his career playing out wide.

Therefore, the World Cup winner felt he had more weapons in his arsenal.

"Going back to Ruud van Nistelrooy, yes I was scoring goals, but for me..." Henry said.

"I'm harsh when I'm judging a striker - for me, you need to have more in your locker.

"Whatever it is."
