Thierry Henry crowned Premier League's greatest player after final win over Ryan Giggs

It's the moment you've all been waiting for - and it came down to a battle between two icons of British football.

But, after a tense opening to voting in the final of Mirror Football's World Cup of Premier League greats on Thursday, it is Thierry Henry who claims bragging rights over Ryan Giggs.

And, let's be honest, it was a walk in the park for the Arsenal icon.

The legendary Frenchman romped to a whopping 82 per cent of the vote, leaving Giggs and Manchester United fans scratching their heads over a mammoth defeat.

Henry was a mainstay of the Arsenal attack between 1999 and 2007, and also came back for a brief loan spell at the club midway through the 2011/12 season.

During time in north London, the forward won two Premier League titles and two FA Cups under the stewardship of Arsene Wenger.

He is also credited with revolutionising the role of a central striker, boasting incredible pace and an eye for goal which saw him net 175 top-flight goals.

And those exploits have earned him another accolade - Mirror Football's No.1 Premier League great.

Henry's thrashing means Red Devils legend Giggs is left to settle for an unfamiliar runners-up medal, having clinched 13 league titles during his playing career.

The Welsh winger was a mainstay of several of Sir Alex Ferguson's great Manchester United sides, and helped set the Old Trafford standards during an era when success followed success for the Red Devils.

Giggs is United's all-time record appearance holder, and after serving on the club's coaching staff under previous boss Louis van Gaal he is now in charge of the Wales national team.

The World Cup of Premier League greats has pitted 32 of the finest talents to ever grace the Premier League against each other over the past few weeks, all in a World Cup format.

Thanks, as ever, for casting your votes - and congratulations to Henry.
