Thief who was so inept police wrote a poem about him is back behind bars

A thief who was so inept police wrote a poem about him is back behind bars.

Andrew Hutchinson's excuse for stealing two charity boxes was that he was hungry.

Last year he was locked up after he bungled his way through two unsuccessful raids.

His incompetence as he tried to swipe electrical goods, whisky and charity collection money even moved police to post a verse.

At one point, the crook's swag bag split and he dropped stolen coins all over the floor of McDonald's.

Officers from GMP  Whitefield posted a verse on Twitter after he was hauled into court:

"There once was a purloiner from  Bury  , who went robbin’ at Mac D’s in a hurry, He scattered charity cash And gave Th’Asda a bash, And now has 4 months for his worry."

He was sentenced to four months prison last year for those offences.

Magistrates gave him an immediate custodial sentence because of his serious record of dishonesty offences and the theft of a charity box.

Now he has been jailed for 12 weeks for latest inept crime spree.

On September 17th at McDonald's restaurant at Woodfield Park in Bury a member of the public alerted staff to someone stealing a charity spinner from the front of the tills.

A man was seen carrying it towards the Tesco petrol station. Police checked CCTV and identified Hutchinson. There was £200 in the box.

On October 3rd staff at the British Heart Foundation on The Rock in Bury noticed that the charity box was missing from the counter. Again police checked CCTV and identified Hutchinson.

In interview he made a full admission to both thefts and told police he did it because he was hungry.

In his crimes last year Hutchinson first went into Asda in the Pilsworth area and tried to steal whisky, electrical goods, and perfume worth £147.

Security staff snatched the goods back off him and sent him on his way.

But he then crossed the road to a McDonald's restaurant and tried again.

Forcing open the container he put all the cash in a jacket over his shoulder. As he walked out he slipped and the jacket came loose and coins fell across the floor. He left a trail of £250 in coins.

He was stopped by staff and customers and the police were called.

The money he had tried to take was for the Ronald McDonald charity that provides accommodation for parents of sick children near hospital wards.

Hutchinson was caught on CCTV as his swag bag split.
