A thief chanced their luck over the weekend by trying to hot wire a car using a screwdriver in Grangemouth.

The vehicles owner was shocked to discover a broken window and the tool wrapped around wires under the steering wheel yesterday afternoon.

Officers were alerted to the incident, which is believed to have happened on Croftside Court between Friday and yesterday, Sunday October, 3.

Pictures shared on social media show the full extent of the damage and how the thug planned on making off with the grey coloured Toyota.

An investigation has started and cops are asking anyone with information to get in touch.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "At around 5.30pm on Sunday, 3 October, 2021, a report was received of an attempted theft of a car from the Kersiebank Avenue area of Grangemouth which is believed to have happened over the weekend.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
