A thief tried to feed a police dog a pizza supper and Tennent's lager after it tracked him down to a hiding spot in a garden.

George Higgins had earlier robbed Christopher Fletcher after following him from a shop in the Cardonald area of Glasgow last December.

Higgins had just been turned away from the store as he tried to but booze without having any money.

The 39-year-old decided to rob Mr Fletcher, 51, as he walked along Mosspark Drive carrying pizza and chips as well alcohol and cigarettes that he had just bought from the shop.

Prosecutor Jennifer Harkins told Glasgow Sheriff Court: “Higgins put his arms around his neck, dragged him to the ground and made off with his bags.
