Thief threatens man with knife on Great Western Road as police launch appeal

Glasgow police are appealing for information after an attempted robbery on Great Western Road.

The incident happened around 1pm on Monday, 29 March outside a row of shops near Anniesland Cross.

A 59-year-old man was approached by an unidentified man who attempted to engage him in conversation before pushing him to the ground.

He was then threatened by the man with a knife but refused to hand over any money. The man then ran off northwards onto Herschell Street.

The victim was treated at the scene by the ambulance service for minor injuries.

The suspect is described as being white, around 6ft tall with sharp facial features.

He spoke with a local Scottish accent and was wearing a black hat, black jacket and bottoms.

Detective Sergeant Neil Guy of the Greater Glasgow Robbery Unit said: "Detectives are reviewing public and private CCTV footage and extra patrols will be carried out in the area.

"There were several members of the public in the area, both on foot and passing in vehicles, around the time of the incident. I am appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact the police.

"If you were passing in a vehicle and may have dashcam footage then I would ask you to please review it and pass on anything which may be useful to us.

"Anyone with information can call 101, quoting incident 1428 of 29 March, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
