Thief targets parked vehicles in South Shore: police

Police are warning South Siders of vehicle thefts reported over the last few weeks in South Shore.

In each case, someone parked their vehicle on the street only to return and find it missing, Chicago police said in a community alert. In one case, a vehicle was left running when it was stolen.

The thefts happened:

  • About 6 a.m. Jan. 19 in the 7100 block of South Yates Boulevard;
  • Between 1 p.m. Jan. 19 and 6:17 a.m. Jan. 20 in the 7200 block of South Yates Boulevard;
  • Between 4 p.m. Jan. 23 and 10:29 p.m. Jan. 24 in the 6900 block of South Oglesby Avenue; and
  • Between 1:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Jan. 25 in the 7000 block of South Crandon Avenue.

A description of any suspects was not available.
