Woman swiped ex-boyfriend's Nintendo and sold it to pay off drug debt

A thief pinched her ex’s fishing rods and sold them for cash to pay off a drug debt.

Jodylea Scott, 37, nicked a quantity of fishing equipment and a Nintendo Switch from her ex’s home at Cunningham Place, Ayr between October 3 and November 15 last year.

Depute fiscal Scott Toal said the pair had been in a relationship in 2009 for a short period of time and had a son together.

On October 17, 2019, there was a knock at the door and the complainer found a note tied to his son’s dog’s collar asking for help.

He recognised the writing as being from Scott and went to investigate outside where he found her nearby upset.

Mr Toal said: “The accused was upset and he took her home and allowed her to stay over and arranged for her to see her son.

“On November 15, the complainer was ready to go fishing and noticed a number of rods and reels were missing.

“He contacted the accused and she told him she had taken them and sold them to Cash Generators.

The complainer also found out his son’s Nintendo Switch was missing. The credit agreement in Scott’s name was seized and further enquiries were carried out.

Scott was interviewed and admitted to officers she had taken the items to pay a debt for drugs and had hoped to get the items back.

It was unclear in court the value of the stolen goods but Mr Toal added: “It was Cash Generators who ended up losing out.”

Solicitor John Gallagher said: “These items were ultimately returned to him.

“The figure that’s been quoted appears to be an insurance claim. A figure of £470 was quoted to her bank.

“She’s very up front about all of the circumstances on going.

“She’s already taken steps to address these issues herself.”

Scott featured in the Post in 2018 as she came to the aid of a tourist was assaulted at Ayr’s bus station and had her mobile pinched in the process.

She said at the time: “There’s too many assaults, robberies, phones getting stolen so we should all be looking out for one another.”

Scott, of Dalmilling Road in Ayr, was placed on a community payback order of 18 months supervision and must also complete 150 hours of unpaid work.
