Thief stole bikes from outside Queen's Medical Centre and University of Nottingham

A thief stole eight bikes from outside the Queen's Medical Centre and the University of Nottingham campus.

Robert Wilson, of Rodwell Close, Beechdale, was handed a 14 month prison sentence for stealing eight bikes between November 2, 2019 and March 25 this year.

Police said the stolen bikes had been locked up and secured.

Officers said that when they approached the 33-year-old he tried to cycle off and pushed the arresting officer causing injuries to both shins and arm as he went to stop him.

He was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday, June 26.

He received eight months imprisonment on each count of the bike theft to run concurrent, two months to run consecutively for assaulting the police officer and four months consecutive for breaching a suspended sentence. A Criminal Behaviour Order has also been sought for five years.

PC John Jackson, from Nottinghamshire Police's Prison Handling Team, said: "We clearly wanted to track down who'd been committing these thefts over the course of around four months and we are glad we were able to track down the person behind it.

"Wilson showed no regard for other people and thought himself above the law by the way he tried to evade officers. This sends the message out that we take all reports of crime seriously and investigate them robustly to bring offenders to justice."
