Thief steals nearly £1,500 from popular fish and chip shop in West Bridgford

The manager of a fish and chip shop in West Bridgford is still hopeful that a thief who stole just under £1,500 from the tills during a burglary will be caught.

Officers were called to George's fish bar in Melton Road in West Bridgford after reports of a burglary.

The manager, Liam Hopkins, 28, said the offender must have been "very slight" to have squeezed through the iron security bars in a window at the rear of the fish bar.

"There was a back window that was left open but the window had iron bars over it," he told Nottinghamshire Live.

"This person had managed to get through so he must have been a very slight individual.

"We have since put up more bars in the window. He took just under £1,500 from the tills.

"We've got him on CCTV but no fingerprints were discovered."

He added: "I've never experienced anything like this before. Usually they are a rarity. I'm a bit shocked.

"It's always surprising that people do it but it's just the way of the world that people will take advantage."

Mr Hopkins said the fish bar opened the next day despite taking a hit after the late-night burglary on Saturday, July 6, this year.

He had only just become the manager shortly before the burglary happened.

Police officers were called to the scene in the morning the follow day, on Sunday, July 7.

A spokesman for Nottinghamshire Police added: "Nottinghamshire Police would like to speak to this man in connection with a burglary in West Bridgford.

"A quantity of cash was taken from the tills and safe at the property after an offender broke in via the rear of the premises. It is believed the incident happened overnight on Saturday 6 July 2019.

"If you recognise the man pictured, or have any information that could aid officers in their investigation, please contact 101 and quote crime number 94 of 7 July 2019."
