Police are warning Homan Square residents after someone stole from people after meeting up to buy electronics.

In each case, the suspect made arrangements to buy a cellphone or electronic device from someone they met over social media, Chicago police said. When they met, the suspect took property from the person without paying and ran off.

In one incident, the suspect punched a person when they refused to show them the cellphone, police said. The person was able to escape without being robbed.

The meetings all happened in the 3200 block of West Lexington Street, police said. Two happened at 4:40 p.m. and 10:18 p.m. on Aug. 25. Another happened about 11:20 a.m. on Sept. 6, and a fourth happened the next day at 9 p.m.

The suspect is described as a 20- to 30-year old man standing 6-foot-1 to 6-foot-3 and weighing 200 to 210 pounds. He’s described as having brown eyes and short, black hair.

Anyone with information of the incidents is asked to contact Area North detectives at 312-744-8263.
