Thief pinched charity tin and helped himself to hair gel in raid on Ayrshire barbers

An Irvine man who ransacked a barbers in Stevenston has been jailed.

Dillon Gilmour broke into the Turkish Barber shop on Townhead Road on May 3 last year.

He stole a cash register full of money as well as hair gel, a charity collection tin and two music systems.

The offence was also committed while Gilmour, of Pladda Court, Irvine, was on bail for another offence.

The 25-year-old was also found in possession of a knife on Glencairn Street on the date of the break-in.

He admitted the offences at when he appeared before Kilmarnock Sheriff Court this week and was sentenced to 21 months in prison by Sheriff Shirley Foran.
