Thief gives shop worker 'cheeky sign' as he walks out without paying

A shameless thief took two bottles of vodka from a corner shop and gave the person behind the counter a nod and a cheeky sign before leaving without paying.

CCTV footage of the brazen theft sent to the ECHO shows a man entering Majestic News and Wine in Old Swan on Monday afternoon.

Wearing a baseball cap, high vis vest and shorts, the man calmly enters and walks past a customer to the far end of the family shop, towards the bottles of alcohol.

He then appears to pick up two bottles of vodka before walking back towards the door, but not before giving a shop worker a shameless wave and a 'thumbs up' when he's challenged.

A customer being served and the shop owner are then left dumbfounded as the man leaves the shop and makes his escape on a green mountain bike.

Following the theft, the son of the shop owner posted the CCTV videos of the man alongside the caption: "Wall of shame!!! Find this rat, local corner shop in Derby lane - Majestic news and wine".

After the footage was posted, people reacted angrily to the "blatant" theft.

One person said: "Absolute scum. Hope someone recognise him".

A second person posted: "How blatant is he. Scumbag".

The ECHO has contacted Merseyside Police for more information.
