Thief drove away in bus stolen from Wallsend special educational needs school

A search is under way for a brazen thief who drove away in a stolen school bus.

Shortly before 9.15pm on Wednesday, officers received a report of a theft of a white Ford Transit bus from Silverdale School in Langdale Gardens, Wallsend.

An unknown offender entered the school premises, before making off in the bus and driving through a secure fence.

The school caters for youngsters with social, emotional, and mental health difficulties.

Northumbria Police is now investigating the theft and have asked for anyone with information to come forward.

Officers have reviewed CCTV and are now asking anybody who thinks they may have seen the vehicle or who might have been involved to come forward with information.

They have asked those who live in the area to check CCTV and dashcam footage. Your information, no matter how insignificant, could provide the crucial missing link to this investigation, according to officers.

Anyone who has seen the vehicle or has information is asked to contact police via the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of their website or by calling 101 quoting log number 1023 301220.
