Thief breaks into Dublin house using unique technique and brings stolen car on 126km joyride across Ireland

One man in his 60s has been arrested after a thief broke into a Dublin house using their own very unique technique before bringing a stolen car on a 126km joyride across the country.

The person behind the Tallaght burglary managed to flee the scene with a car, a purse filled with bank cards and other items despite the house alarm blaring.

They got into the home in Glenview Drive during the late night burglary using the small side window and bizarrely opened it using a green coloured dart-like object to push open the pane of glass that was already ajar.

The intruder found the fob for the alarm and knocked it off while they continued ransacking the place.

Distraught owners of the house reported the incident to the Gardai and informed the banks to cancel their cards which already had suspicious activity on their accounts.

The cards had been used in several garages before the stolen car was recovered nearly 80 miles away in Kilkenny.

An elderly man was arrested and detained in a Kilkenny Garda Station a day later in connection with the burglary.

A Garda spokesman told Dublin Live: "We are investigating a burglary that took place in a residential premises on the 9 July 2020 at approximately 11pm.

He added: "A man in his 60s has been arrested and was detained at Thomastown Garda Station on the 10 July 2020."
