Firefighters tackled a fire at a coffee shop in Swansea on Sunday.

Thick smoke could be seen billowing from Café Milano's in Gors Avenue, Townhill, just after 9.30am on Sunday, July 18.

Crews from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service were called to the coffee shop, which is set among a row of businesses on the stretch of road, and spent more than an hour and a half extinguishing the fire.

There were no injuries reported as it is believed that nobody was in the building at the time of the incident.

An eyewitness said that police were also in attendance and closed the road for some time on Sunday morning.

A man working in one of the nearby shops said: "It happened at about 9.40am but the shop was closed and the shutters were down. When we saw the smoke coming out of the shop we called the fire brigade."

A spokeswoman for Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: "We received a call at 9.42am on Sunday morning to a commercial property in Gors Avenue, Swansea. It was a coffee shop that was a single-storey building.

"There were no injuries reported and nobody was in the property when crews arrived.

"We had three pumps there and an officer. Crews used two breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, a thermal imaging camera and positive pressure ventilation. Crews left the scene at 11.17am."

A spokesman for South Wales Police added: "Police were called at 9.45am on Sunday with regard to a fire at a shop on Gors Avenue in Townhill. Officers attended to provide traffic management in the area."
