Thick fog blankets Bhubaneswar, affects road & rail traffic

BHUBANESWAR: A thick blanket of fog engulfed the state capital till late on Friday morning reducing visibility to 100 metres and affecting road and railway traffic partially. Fog also affected life in Angul town reducing visibility to a mere 50 metres.

Shallow to moderate fog also was reported at a few more places in the state. There was, however, no report of major problems from anywhere in the state.

The report of fog came amid a little rise in minimum temperature across the state.

The India Meteorological Department forecast said light to moderate rainfall will occur under the influence of western disturbance at several places in the state till January 25 .

For Saturday, the forecast said light to moderate rain may continue at isolated places in seven districts. Those districts are Nuapada, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Balasore.

H R Biswas, scientist and head of the regional IMD centre in the city, said rainfall activity would increase on Sunday in parts of the selected districts.

Biswas said the night temperature rose by one to three degrees Celsius in the state in last 24 hours and such trend would continue till January 25.

Similiguda in Koraput district recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 8.9°C for the day.

The city recorded a mimimum temperature of 16.8°C, a rise of 0.4 degrees from the normal.
