Thick black smoke seen for miles after lorry fire on city road

Thick black smoke could be seen billowing from miles away after a lorry cab caught fire in the city centre.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service were called to reports of a vehicle fire on Regent Road at 6.03pm on Tuesday, June 29.

Two fire engines arrived at the scene at 6.10pm to find a lorry cab on fire.

While fighting the fire, engines blocked the road but the fire service have said cars are now able to pass.

One eyewitness said it looked like driver had burnt his hand as fire crews have put burn kit on.
