Thibaut Courtois slams Manchester United forward Anthony Martial with brutal answer

Thibaut Courtois gave a brutal answer when Belgium teammate Jan Vertonghen claimed Anthony Martial was an elite player.

The Real Madrid goalkeeper refused to categorise the Manchester United forward as one of the stars to miss out on Euro 2020 as part of a game with Vertonghen.

Speaking on Pickx Sports the Belgian duo conducted a colloquial interview in which they spoke about the European Championship and in particular the players to miss out on a call-up.

As part of the chat the pair were asked to name the biggest stars to miss out on the competition, a question which caused controversy from Courtois.

The former Chelsea 'keeper could only name his former Real teammate Sergio Ramos, who was left out of the Spain squad, as part of the task.

Vertonghen then intervened and suggested Erling Haaland, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Virgil van Dijk, Moise Kean, Miralem Pjanic and Martial as other options.

However, Courtois interrupted bluntly saying: “Martial? He is a star player?" before shrugging his shoulders and breaking into laughter.

While he remains a popular figure at Old Trafford few could argue French forward Martial is a 'star' player based on his performances last season.

The 25-year-old netted just four times for United in the Premier League last season as part of an injury-stricken campaign which saw him occupy a rotational role.
