Thiago writes emotional farewell message to Bayern Munich ahead of Liverpool transfer

Thiago Alcantara has taken to social media to bid an emotional farewell to Bayern Munich as he closes in on a move to Liverpool.

The Reds opened talks with Bayern on Monday and have agreed a £20million deal with an additional £5m in add-ons.

A four-year contract will be signed after a routine medical is undertaken on Friday and the Spain international leaves Bayern after helping them win the Champions League in his final game last month.

This morning, Thiago tweeted a message to his former club and its fans, saying; "Forever grateful @fcbayern! Bavaria will always be a piece of home for. #MiaSanMia."

And in a special video, he spoke out to say goodbye to the German giants.

Thiago said: "Yes, I've made the most difficult decision of my sports career. I will close this chapter in this wonderful club where I have grown as a player for seven years.

"Triumphs, joy and also hard times. But what I am most proud of is that I arrived in Munich as a young man full of dreams and now I will leave completely fulfilled with a club, a history and a culture.

"Here I learned to love a tradition, that I am now saying goodbye to but I will never forget. Mia San Mia.

"I have had some fantastic moments in this city at [Bayern's training ground] and in our beloved Allianz Arena with my Bavarian family who treated me so well and loved me every second.

"My decision is purely of a sporting nature. As a soccer player, I want new challenges to develop myself further. Bavaria will always be my home.

"Thank you FC Bayern."

Thiago will wear the No.6 at Anfield but Sunday's visit to Chelsea will come too soon for the incoming midfielder.

Liverpool travel to Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup next Thursday but a debut at home to Arsenal a week on Monday is more likely to be the case for a player who has won the Champions League with both Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
