Thiago Silva willing to 'cancel' Chelsea contract to seal emotional Fluminense return after Todd Boehly criticism

Thiago Silva wants to scrap the final year of his Chelsea deal to clear the way for a return home to Brazil with Fluminense, according to a report in his homeland.

The veteran stopper is contracted at Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2024 but with the club engulfed in crisis and the 38-year-old having been critical of owner Todd Boehly he is now searching for a return to South America.

That is according to Globo Esporte who say that “Silva's return to Fluminense depends on the defender's agreement with Christopher Vivell, director of football at Chelsea,” adding that “he is willing to give up his last season in the Premier League to end his career at Fluminense.” Despite his advancing years, Silva has been a key player for Chelsea but he signed his contract extension before Graham Potter’s departure.

He made his 32nd appearance of the season against Bournemouth last week but he wants a return to Brazil and a decision is expected after interim Blues boss Frank Lampard’s side face Champions League-chasing Newcastle United in the final round of English Premier League fixtures at the end of May.

Rio de Janeiro-based Fluminense recently made a huge signing in former Real Madrid man Marcelo and want to team the two Brazil legends up. Silva started his career with the club and wants an emotional return.
