Thiago Silva's Instagram message after Thomas Tuchel confirms Chelsea injury blow

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva will miss Sunday's FA Cup quarter-final clash with Sheffield United.

The Brazilian has not featured since the Blues' 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at the beginning of last month as he was forced to withdraw from the London derby in the 36th minute with a thigh injury.

As a result, Silva has missed the next seven games in a row across all competitions - including 1-0 wins over Liverpool and Atletico Madrid away from home.

Although, the former Paris Saint-Germain captain did return to training last month and was even named on the bench for the 2-0 win over Everton a couple of weeks ago.

However, as confirmed by Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel, the 36-year-old's return to action has been delayed as he won't be risked against the Blades.

"I don't know if he got re-injured or something or it was too much [celebrating the Emerson goal vs Atletico]," said Tuchel.

"No, now is not the moment to take a risk with him as it's the last game before the international break."

Following confirmation of the injury blow, Thiago Silva has been active on social media.

Although, as seen in the image below, it hasn't been to discuss a possible return date but rather to reflect on what happened the last time Sheffield United visited Stamford Bridge.

Earlier in the season, when Frank Lampard was in charge, the Blues comfortably beat the Blades 4-1 with the Brazilian on the scoresheet.

And when reflecting on that game, Thiago Silva uploaded Chelsea's post to his Instagram Stories and captioned it with a blue love heart emoji.

Whilst the experienced defender will play no part this afternoon, Tuchel has hinted at a contract extension for the Brazilian whose deal is up in the summer.

"On his contract, it is too early," Tuchel said. "It's not the right surrounding to speak about it. It's between him and the club and between the club and I, we will speak about it together. If you look at the pictures, you see how young he looks.

"He ran the stairs up and down and was dressed like a 28-year-old. So I think there is still a way to go."
