Thiago Silva's first words as a Chelsea player as he reveals why he chose the Blues

Chelsea have announced the signing of Thiago Silva on a free transfer.

The Brazilian left PSG after the Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich last weekend, and the Blues have snapped him up on a one-year deal.

Chelsea also have the option of extending his contract for another season, with the 35-year-old adding a great amount of experience to Frank Lampard's back line.

The Blues really struggled in the 2019/20 campaign in defence, conceding 54 Premier League goals, the worst record inside the top ten.

And Marina Granovskaia has taken the opportunity to bring in the centre-back to help bolster the back four.

Silva won seven Ligue 1 titles with PSG, and the defender is keen to help Chelsea win titles once again in the upcoming season.

"I am so happy to be joining Chelsea," Silva told Chelsea's website.

"I am delighted to be a part of Frank Lampard’s exciting squad for next season and I’m here to challenge for honours.

"See you soon Chelsea fans, I look forward to playing at Stamford Bridge very soon."
