Thiago Silva faces defining World Cup test for Brazil as forgotten Chelsea man omitted

Thiago Silva starts and leads Brazil for their second World Cup group game against Switzerland on Monday afternoon.

The 38-year-old defender played the entirety of Brazil's impressive 2-0 win over Serbia on Thursday night. Brazil looks to match France as the only other nation to maintain a faultless start at the finals so far. A win over Switzerland would guarantee qualification for the last sixteen.

Along with Silva's continued inclusion as captain, Richarlison who scored both goals against Serbia at the Lusail Stadium to maintain a dazzling goal record for his nation. Concerns will grow for manager Tite though as Neymar is not named in the matchday squad after suffering an ankle injury last week.

The other name of interest to Chelsea fans in this game comes through Denis Zakaria who remains on the bench for Murat Yakin at Stadium 974 in Doha.

Zakaria has only made two appearances for Chelsea since joining on loan for the season from Juventus on deadline day but still maintained his regular spot for his nation.

The midfielder will be hoping to gain his first minutes from the bench on Monday afternoon after being an unused substitute in Switzerland's 1-0 victory over Cameroon last Thursday.
