Thiago Silva breaks Chelsea players' social media silence after Arsenal defeat

Chelsea star Thiago Silva has broken the silence among the Blues squad following their shock defeat to Arsenal.

Frank Lampard 's men were stunned by their out-of-form rivals on Boxing Day with goals from Alexandre Lacazette, Granit Xhaka and Bukayo Saka securing the three points for the Gunners.

Unusually, after the game, there was a degree of silence on social media among the Chelsea stars with no one seeming to post, as they would usually after a game, even in defeat.

But defender Thiago Silva did, sending a message of encouragement to his teammates and the fans following what was, on the whole, an abject display from the Blues.

He said: "May we have the strength to fight the battles. May we have the faith to win. May we have the courage to never give up. May we have hope that everything will work out."

Encouraging words from an experienced player, and words Chelsea might need given their poor form, currently on a run of three defeats from four games.

That run of results has left Lampard's men in eighth place ahead of their clash with Aston Villa on Monday with Dean Smith's men now sitting one place above them in the table, leading on goal difference with two games in hand.

Chelsea, and indeed Lampard, are now starting to find themselves under pressure given they spent more than £200million on revamping the squad in the summer.

Concern will no doubt begin to build given that significant outlay and the fact Chelsea are now seven points behind leaders Liverpool and putting on some concerning performances, particularly away from home.
