Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr drop hint over Thomas Tuchel's Chelsea team vs Southampton

The games just keep coming for Chelsea and Thomas Tuchel.

When you're competiting on five fronts the schedule is relentless and that results in plenty of changes to the starting XI from game to game.

The Blues take on Southampton in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night in a game where rotation is almost expected to balance the challenge of other competitions. Tuchel has been unafraid to introduce his fringe stars at crucial moments with Malang Sarr, Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek all playing larger roles than many would have expected coming into the season.

The Blues are without Christian Pulisic, Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner at the moment, with N'Golo Kante missing the game with Norwich following some tightness.

However, Tuchel has plentiful options in defence. The German coach has yet to name the same back three in consecutive games this season.

With Trevoh Chalobah, Thiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger all starting at the weekend, it wouldn't be surprising to see some alterations and perhaps some Chelsea stars have hinted at who could be starting.

Sarr posted a countdown to the game on his Instagram account, suggesting he may be in line for some minutes this evening. The Frenchman stepped in when Rudiger was injured against Brentford and produced an impressive performance before some tricky moments as the Bees pressed on.

Sarr started in Chelsea's last Carabao Cup outing against Aston Villa too. One man who did not feature in the Blues' win over the Midlands side on penalties, was Thiago Silva.

The Brazilian watched that game from the bench, but has been in Tuchel's side against Malmo and Norwich.

Like Sarr, the 37-year-old posted on Instagram in the build up to his evening's match. Silva could provide some experience that the likes of Sarr will benefit from, as well as any other less experienced players who feature against the Saints.
