Thiago's extraordinary Champions League final stats underline Liverpool transfer hope

Bayern Munich's Thiago produced a masterclass in the Champions League Final to show just why Liverpool want him this summer.

The Spaniard has told the German side he wants out and will not be signing a new deal despite winning his 16th honour at the club.

Liverpool have been heavily linked with his services but are currently reluctant to pay Bayern's asking price.

Thiago's performance in the Estadio Da Luz may convince them to pay up however as he put up a host of impressive stats.

The midfielder played more passes (85), made more ball recoveries (7), made more tackles (3), made more interceptions (2) and created more chances (2) than any other individual.

He is almost certain to leave with Bayern chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge previously admitting they will move the player on.

"He's a great guy on and off the pitch. We negotiated with him and met all of his wishes," he said.

"But he [Thiago Alcantara] wants to leave. It looks like he may want to do something new at the end of his career."

"We don't want to lose a player for free next year. I say that very clearly!"

Should Liverpool pay Thiago's asking price? Have your say below

It seems surprising that Thiago would want to leave a club who have dominated for so long.

Bayern won a second treble in seven years with victory over PSG and have won the Bundesliga title in each of the seven years their Spanish midfielder has been at the club.

Since moving from Barcelona he has played over 230 times and scored 35 goals.

Liverpool's midfield is well stocked with Jurgen Klopp having a host of options to pick from and that could mean some seeking pastures new.

Georginio Wijnaldum continues to be linked with the exit door after four years at Anfield.
