Thiago has already broken a Premier League record after Liverpool debut

In his first 45 minutes as a Liverpool player, Thiago Alcantara broke a Premier League passing record in their 2-0 win at Chelsea.

Sadio Mane grabbed both goals for the Reds, with Thiago coming on at half-time and catching the eye in the midfield three.

The Spain midfielder was announced as a Liverpool player on Friday afternoon, after completing a £25m switch from Bayern Munich.

Jurgen Klopp admitted before the match that there was no chance that the 29-year-old could have started the game for his team after arriving from Germany just a couple of days ago.

However, when Thiago replaced Jordan Henderson for the second-half, the midfielder managed to control the game - and even recorded one quite remarkable stat.

Thiago completed 75 passes in 45 minutes, which is more than any of the Chelsea players did in the entire 90 minutes.

As well as that, it is the most passes completed by any player with a maximum of 45 minutes in the Premier League since records began in the 2003/04 campaign.

The Spaniard was involved in another key moment in the game - but not one he was hoping to be - when he clipped Timo Werner and the referee awarded a penalty to Chelsea.

However, Jorginho missed his first-ever penalty for the Blues, and Alisson saved his first-ever spot-kick for the Reds.

Klopp’s side eventually went on to wrap up their 2-0 victory rather comfortably - definitely helped by Thiago’s calming presence in the middle of the pitch.

The Reds are back in action on Thursday evening against Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup.

After, it is Arsenal in the Premier League on the following Monday.
