'Thiago for cheaper' - Liverpool fans troll Man City amid £40m link to Tottenham's Harry Winks

Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks.

The England midfielder faces greater competition for his place in Jose Mourinho's side after Spurs completed the signing of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton this week.

And according to The Sun, Pep Guardiola is keen to explore the possibility of signing the 24-year-old if a deal can be struck with Tottenham.

The report claims Spurs would be willing to sell if they can attract bids in excess of £40million for the academy graduate.

Winks, who made 41 appearances for Spurs in all competitions last season, signed a new five-year contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in 2019.

But with Spurs eyeing new signings this summer, it has been claimed that boss Jose Mourinho is prepared to cash in on the midfielder to fund his transfer plans.

Rival supporters took to social media to react to the reports, with Liverpool supporters in particular, amused at the proposed £40million fee.

The Reds have been linked with a £27million move for Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara, and some fans took the opportunity to point out the difference in fees.

One wrote: "Not interested in Thiago for 30...but want Winks for 40?"

Another posted: "If they're going to pay 40 million for Winks and Liverpool get Thiago for 30, shows what is wrong with the English market. Crazy, Thiago is levels ahead of Winks as a player."

A report from Bild in Germany claims Liverpool have lodged an offer for Thiago, although the Liverpool Echo claim Jurgen Klopp's side have not made any contact.
