Thiago and Naby Keita injury update as Jurgen Klopp explains Liverpool team dilemma

Jurgen Klopp has refused to put a timeframe on how long Thiago Alcantara, Naby Keita and Joel Matip will remain out for.

However, the Reds boss has hinted that his summer midfield signing could be available for tomorrow evening’s clash with West Ham at Anfield.

Reds star Thiago was injured in the Merseyside derby after finding himself on the receiving end of a wild lunge from Richarlison, for which the Everton forward was sent off.

The Spaniard, however, was pictured training alone before the Midtjylland game.

But he did not make his side’s matchday squad for the Champions League clash on Tuesday.

Matip was also left sidelined yet again after picking up a problem at Goodison Park.

Keita hasn't made a matchday squad since Liverpool's 7-2 defeat to Aston Villa earlier this month, and, like Matip, has had after a succession of injury problems over the last few months.

When asked to provide an update on Thiago and Keita specifically, Klopp was upbeat - but admitted he doesn't know how long they will remain out for.

"Both are in a good way. That's how it is with recovery,” he told the media during his West Ham pre-match press conference.

“You saw what happened with Thiago. It needs time to settle but we don't know exactly how long.

“He is desperate to make the next steps. If he is ready for tomorrow, we will see. It's the same for Naby, it's a different type of injury."

Klopp added: "When the boys train, in an ideal world they get enough time to prepare for 10 or 20 games - so when someone is in training it doesn't mean you can use them immediately.

"I am not in a rush with the boys, the medical department tell me and that's the info I work with. We make the best."
