Thiago Almada has seemingly ruled out making a move to Leeds United this summer after making promises to his team-mates.
The 19-year-old is one of a number of Argetine players to be linked with a move to Elland Road this summer, following the Whites’ promotion back to the Premier League.
Reports in South America have linked Marcelo Bielsa to a whole host of his compatriots as he looks to strengthen his squad ahead of their first season back in the top flight.
Almada has been heavily linked with a move away from current club Velez Sarsfield, and has previously suggested he would be keen to link up with Bielsa.
“I would like Bielsa to coach me,” Almada told TyC Sports. “My friends sent me something about Bielsa, but I am calm. Whether it happens or not, we have to see.
“I don’t watch much soccer, but I saw some Leeds highlights and I saw something similar to what we did in Velez with [Gabriel] Heinze.”
It seems though that the young playmaker may be staying put in Argentina for the time being.
Velez Sarsfield team-mate Fernando Gago was asked about the possibility of Almada leaving the club this summer, and the former Real Madrid midfielder revealed the 19-year-old had given him his word that he won’t be going anywhere.
“Everyone knows when it is time to go,” Gago told Ole ( via Sport Witness ).
“But hey, he’s going to have to stay another year because he already gave me his word. If he doesn’t comply, I won’t let him leave the house.”
Ole also report that Manchester City and Manchester United have also shown an interest in Almada, which could mean Leeds will face competition for his signature.
