Thiago Alcantara would be a 'dream' signing for Liverpool - Rio Ferdinand

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand believes Thiago Alcantara would be an ideal signing for Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

Thiago has been heavily linked with a switch to Anfield this summer given his Bayern contract is up in summer 2021, with the Bundesliga champions potentially looking to cash in now rather than lose him on a free in a years' time.

Liverpool's transfer budget has been heavily impacted by the financial strain of the coronavirus pandemic, though Thiago's fee is not likely to be prohobitive should Klopp decide to make the Spain international a priority signing.

Thiago has been a key player for Bayern since signing from Barcelona in 2013, winning the German title every single year since then - and the playmaker was in fine form against Chelsea on Saturday night as Bayern progressed to the Champions League finals.

The 29-year-old recorded 91 per cent passing accuracy as Bayern outclassed Frank Lampard's Blues, and Ferdinand believes Liverpool should do all they can to make Thiago their player.

Speaking on BT Sport's coverage of the game, Ferdinand said: "[He would be a] great signing.

"He is a conductor, somebody who controls the tempo of the game, he’s got a wing mirror so he can see behind him, can see all angles, play every pass in the game.

"Intelligent player, he speaks the language which is an important part of it as well.

"He’d be a dream to have for someone like Liverpool. He’s the type of player they probably haven’t got."
