Thiago Alcantara set for "farewell match" as Liverpool transfer intent clear

Thiago Alcantara will bid farewell to Germany tonight when he lines up for Spain in their UEFA Nations League clash in Stuttgart, according to local Munich media.

The Spanish international midfielder has been strongly linked with a move to Liverpool all summer, with Manchester United also said to hold an interest in the 29-year-old prior to their signing of Donny van de Beek from Ajax.

It is the Premier League champions who are said to be Thiago's destination of choice though, with the former Barcelona star making it clear that he would like to move to Anfield this summer in order to experience life in the Premier League.

Thiago still has one year left on his Bayern contract, but the club have indicated that they won't stand in his way as he looks to join up with Jurgen Klopp's squad.

For their part, Liverpool insist that no deal for Thiago is imminent, although they are said to be monitoring the situation and preparing an offer.

In Munich though, there is a clear acceptance that the midfielder's stay in German football is coming to an end after seven Bundesliga titles in seven years at Bayern.

The Munich publication Abendzeitung Munchen have printed a full page preview of the match featuring an image of Thiago with the Champions League trophy, and dubbing the game 'Thiago's Abschiedsspiel' - which translates as testimonial or farewell match.

They add that it is an open secret in Munich that Thiago wants to join Liverpool, and they expect the deal to be wrapped up in the coming weeks once the player has left international duty.

Liverpool are said to be mulling over the fee before they submit an offer for the 37-times capped midfielder.
