Thiago Alcantara's conversation with Jurgen Klopp overheard after first Liverpool goal

Thiago Alcantara had a message to Jurgen Klopp after netting his first Liverpool goal to seal Saturday night’s 2-0 win over Southampton.

The midfielder broke his scoring duck for Liverpool following his £20million move from Bayern Munich last September after 26 matches with a smart right-foot finish from inside the ‘D’ on the edge of the penalty area in the final minute of the fixture against the Saints.

Both Kopites and boss Klopp himself will be hoping to see more of the same from the Spain international next term but an on-the-field conversation between the pair moments after the final whistle which was caught on camera suggests that Thiago knew he had such potential in his locker given the work he has been putting in at the club’s new AXA Training Centre in Kirkby.

LFC TV footage shows Thiago and Klopp shake hands before the player is invited in for a customary bear hug with the gaffer.

While Thiago leans into his shoulder, the Liverpool manager seems to congratulate him with the words: “Wow! What a finish.”

In reply, the 30-year-old says: “I made it in training.”

A product of Barcelona’s illustrious ‘La Masia’ youth academy, although Thiago has been highly-regarded as a talented playmaker throughout his career, he has never been a prolific scorer.

He never managed more than four goals in a single campaign for the Catalan giants before his Bundesliga switch in 2013 and his best seasonal scoring tally with Bayern was nine in 2016/17.
