Thiago Alcantara has taken a significant step in his recovery from a knee problem by returning to training for Liverpool.
And Joel Matip was back working with the first-team squad as Jurgen Klopp's injury crisis finally shows signs of easing.
Thiago hasn't featured since being on the receiving end of a red-card challenge from Everton forward Richarlison at Goodison on October 17.
The Spain international was able to play the remaining minutes before complaining of an issue which, while not requiring surgery, was more serious than Liverpool had initially thought.
But Thiago was on Thursday working with the club's rehabilitation coaches for the first time since late October, when the extent of the damage became apparent.
The 29-year-old midfielder will need at least two full sessions training with the first team before being considered for selection by Klopp.
But the sight of Thiago in the gym and on the pitch at Kirkby will be a major bonus to Liverpool, who have been without a host of key players at various points during the campaign.
Klopp has received a further boost with Matip having returned to full team training.
The defender missed Wednesday's 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield having been forced off during half-time in last Sunday's 1-1 draw at Fulham with a back spasm.
If Matip shows no adverse reaction, he will be in line for a recall in place of teenager Rhys Williams for Saturday's Premier League trip to Crystal Palace.
