Thiago Alcantara responds to rumours he's ready to quit Liverpool to rejoin Barcelona

Thiago has dismissed rumours about a return to Barcelona, by insisting: “My commitment is maximum with Liverpool.

The Spanish international’s former Barca team-mate Xavi has returned to the Nou Camp as manager, and is reported to have targeted the midfielder as one of his first signings.

Speculation has intensified in recent months with the 30 year old unable to find a regular starting place in Jurgen Klopp’s side, with his progress limited by injuries and a lack of form.

But speaking before the Champions League tie with Porto he was adamant when he said: “100% I made the right choice to join Liverpool, the right move.

“As I always have been, I am a guy who plays football - I am not concerned about the rumours. I’m focused on the duty I have with my team and the years I have in contract with my team.”

Thiago made his first start for the Reds in more than two months in the 4-0 victory over Arsenal.

But he has struggled for consistency since he arrived at Anfield in September 2020, because of a serious knee injury picked up in only his second game - and first start - for the club.

He did begin to convince on his return at the back end of last season, but another injury early in the current campaign has limited him to just two Premier League starts.

And Thiago suggested that he wants to stay at Anfield and prove himself in the league he calls “The best in the world”.

“I just want to know about this new adventure that I have here in the Premier League and try to win all the trophies I can,” he said.

“And my commitment is maximum with this team, my commitment is much more.”
