Thiago Alcantara delivers injury update and discusses Liverpool return date

Thiago Alcantara is determined to resume full training by the end of the year - but has not put a date on his return to action for Liverpool.

Thiago handed Jurgen Klopp a major boost when he was back in individual training at Kirkby this week.

The 29-year-old has featured for just 135 minutes since arriving from Bayern Munich in the summer having been absent since sustaining a knee injury following a red-card challenge from Everton forward Richarlison in the Goodison derby on October 17.

The Spaniard stepped up his recovery on Thursday with a fitness session in the gym and on the grass at the club's new training centre.

And while Thiago is refusing to target a specific return date, he is in positive mood after more than two months on the sidelines.

“No, just taking it step by step," he said.

“We always try to (do it) like we have a wall in front of us, saying ‘Okay, you have to make a step back before you can advance.’

“Now we think we are in a right mood and looking forward to the end of the year to try to train another time with the team.”

Thiago, who was among four Liverpool players named in the FIFA FIFPro Men's World11 for 2020, has used the time out to further his knowledge of both the club and his new team-mates.

Speaking to liverpoolfc.com, Thiago added: “The team were doing good the last years, it’s not just about this season, it’s about the last years – they were doing an amazing performance not just in the Premier League but also in the Champions League.

“The positive part is (the opportunity) to learn more about the club and to learn more about the players from outside the pitch.”
