Thiago Alcantara deal has led to "many unhappy faces" at Liverpool, says Danny Murphy

Thiago Alcantara's presence will led to "many unhappy faces" at Liverpool because there's even more competition for places.

That's according to Danny Murphy, who is convinced the £26million signing from Bayern Munich will be a first team regular in Jurgen Klopp's team.

Thiago made his Liverpool debut on Sunday, coming off the bench as the Reds ran out 2-0 winners over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The Spain international fitted in seamlessly, and immediately got to work pulling the strings in the middle of the park for Liverpool.

Murphy wrote in the Daily Mail: "There is no doubt in my mind Thiago Alcantara is coming to Liverpool as a first XI player - I doubt very much he's had any conversations with Jurgen Klopp about sitting on the bench this season."

But the former Liverpool midfielder warned that Thiago's presence may cause some dejection in the changing room, with players now finding it even harder to break into the first team.

Murphy also warned it could spell the end of Georginio Wijnaldum's career at Anfield.

He added: "He has great feet, passes well, has super awareness and can play in any of the midfield positions. I don't see any risk at under £30million because he only had a year left on his Bayern contract.

"I do think Gini Wijnaldum's departure has an air of inevitability about it now because Liverpool will have seven or eight players challenging for three positions, which means too many unhappy faces for the balance of the squad."
