Thiago Alcantara addresses transfer speculation amid Manchester United and Man City links with one-word answer

Thiago Alcantara has shrugged off speculation about his future and claimed that he is 'happy' at Bayern Munich, amid links to Manchester United and neighbours Manchester City.

The Spanish midfielder is set to leave the Bundesliga and European champions this summer after informing the club's hierarchy that he will not be signing a new contract, with his current deal scheduled to expire in 2021.

Bayern chiefs are happy to let Thiago leave the club after his seven years of service but only if their £27million asking price is met, which has stalled a proposed deal to Liverpool with the Premier League champions reluctant to meet the valuation.

This has left the door open for other clubs to swoop in and potentially sign up the world class midfielder but Thiago has insisted he is happy in Germany and isn't thinking about a move.

Speaking after Spain's 1-1 draw with Germany in the Nations League the midfielder said he was only focusing on his country's upcoming match against Ukraine.

"I only think about the game against Ukraine. Afterwards, we will see," he said. "Bayern is my home and I am happy to be there."

Thiago was then asked directly by reporters if he had decided between United and Liverpool but he remained coy on his future and responded by smiling before saying 'ciao' and walking away.

United strengthened their midfield on Wednesday by making Ajax playmaker Donny van de Beek their first signing of the summer for £40.1million.

Yet the club continue to be linked with more midfield additions, most notably Thiago though M.E.N. Sport understand he is not a priority target.

City have also been repeatedly linked with the 29-year-old, who was once managed by Pep Guardiola at the Allianz Arena, but it's understood that the Blues have no interest and are unlikely to recruit a new midfielder this summer.

Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly remains the club's top target as they continue to monitor Lionel Messi's situation at Barcelona.
