Former Leeds United manager Howard Wilkinson believes his old club would enhance the Premier League if they were to secure promotion this season.
Despite a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday afternoon, the Whites remain in a good position in the Championship table, a point behind league leaders West Brom.
And Wilkinson believes that Leeds, who have been away from England’s top-flight for 16 years, would not only enhance the division, but they would be cheered on by a passionate fan base.
“I sincerely hope [Leeds are promoted],” the 1992 league title winner told talkSPORT’s Jim White.
“I didn’t know until I actually moved from Leeds how big – in a different sense of the word to size – the city is.
“As a city they have a fantastic ability to get behind what the city stands for, so I hope this is their year.
“They would be a positive in any situation, but to get them in the Premier League would enhance the Premier League.”
