A server got fed up with bad tips and poor treatment while working a shift during the holiday season. She chased down a table that left a $3 tip on a $132 bill.
“Me after chasing my table outside bc they left me $3 on $132 after everyone had been tipping like sh!t all day and they were my last straw of the day. (Yes I did give them their $3 back!),” wrote @jadabarackobama, whose video has since gotten 168,000 views.
Servers: To chase down low tippers or not to chase, that’s the question
@jadabarackobama clarified in her video’s description that “I’ve literally never done this but Sunday was rough you guys.” Despite her explanation, many commenters were quick to take issue with her approach. In subsequent follow-ups, she responded to a few different viewers who were less than pleased with her giving the tip back.
“So you got fired because you wanted to throw a tantrum when someone was nice enough to give you an optional tip? Makes sense,” wrote one viewer. @jadabarackobama replied, “I’m actually still employed there, nice try!”
One viewer shared a recent encounter in which her family got “chased out” to leave a tip. She described leaving a tip for the server but getting “demands” for additional money on top of it.
Some people argued with the commenter that they needed to tip more to “tip out” other restaurant workers. However, one replied, “Stop using ‘tip out’ as an excuse for unprofessional behavior. I’ve worked in food service — I know exactly how it works. That doesn’t justify a waitress cornering customers and demanding more money after already being tipped. That’s intimidation, plain and simple.”
Others told her to “get a real job,” and to not expect tips, especially if those going out to eat didn’t have the money to tip. @jadabarackobama had responses for both claims, expressing the fact that she does, in fact, have a “real job” and that if customers don’t have the money to tip, they should stay home.

Other commenters share their stories of serving
Despite a wave of negative comments, many people took the opportunity to share their experiences with bad tippers.
“I had a table try to leave me $3 on a $96 tab after they ran me nonstop. I gave it right back, after they said ‘no that was for you’ I said ‘nope, that’s your change’ They ended up leaving me a $20 bill instead,” wrote one viewer.
Another added, “Two days ago I got $6 on $482. We literally called them back.”
Despite the mixed reaction to @jadabarackobama’s decision to chase down the table, commenters generally agreed that it’s more courteous to tip well. That is, to avoid the ire of a server or to simply be a kind person.
