'They've sacked him to divert attention from the takeover' - Sunderland fans on Jack Ross' sacking

Sunderland fans have offered mixed reactions after Jack Ross was sacked as the club's manager.

Ross was appointed Black Cats boss last summer and guided the Black Cats to two Wembley finals last season.

His failure to win promotion heaped pressure on him this term, though, and with Sunderland sixth in League One and four points off the automatic promotion places, Stewart Donald has taken the decision to terminate the former St Mirren boss' contract.

In a club statement, he said: "This is a decision that has been made with a heavy heart. When we arrived at the club 18 months ago, we appointed Jack because we felt that he was the right man to take Sunderland forward over a number of years.

“Jack has worked extremely hard, and has helped us achieve stability at the club, and I sincerely thank him for his efforts. I hope and believe that he will go on to have a successful career in management.”

Sunderland fans react as reports suggest takeover is OFF

The news broke not long after reports emerged that MSD Partner's proposed takeover of Sunderland had fallen through.

It has been a rollercoaster of emotions for Sunderland fans this afternoon and they have offered their reactions to both pieces of news on social media.

You can read how Sunderland fans have reacted in the tweets below and in the two videos above.
