'They've run him over!' ... man seriously injured after being hit by car following 'altercation'

A man has suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car following an 'altercation'.

Police taped off Moorside Avenue, in Bolton, for several hours following the incident on Tuesday evening (Tuesday, November 10).

Officers say a man in his 40s was left with serious injuries after a collision with a grey Vauxhall Astra.

It is understood that it happened following an altercation between two vehicles.

One eyewitness reported seeing a group of people shouting and 'waving an axe around' prior to the collision.

Meanwhile, footage posted on social media also showed a number of people shouting in the street before a car appeared to be driven towards a man.

As the camera cuts away, a woman can be heard screaming, "They've run him over."

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident, say GMP.

Following the collision, which happened shortly before 5.20pm, police sealed off a stretch of road close to the junction with Woodstock Drive as part of their investigations.

An eyewitness at the scene reported seeing a number of police vehicles parked up nearby.

Police say they are investigating whether a Volkswagen Golf which was found burned out in Matchmoor Lane, Horwich, on the same evening is linked to the incident.

The vehicle was stolen from the Heaton area of Bolton on October 29, say officers.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "Police were called shortly before 5.20pm on Tuesday 10 November to reports that a grey Vauxhall Astra had collided with a man on Moorside Avenue in Bolton.

"The man – aged in his 40s – was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

"It is understood the collision took place following an altercation between two vehicles.

"No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing."
