'They've had a lot of hurt' Stuart Dallas desperate to end years of Leeds United fans' pain

Stuart Dallas is well aware of the pain that Leeds United supporters have had to go through as he and his teammates look to end the club's 16-year exile from the Premier League.

Leeds head into the final nine games of the season at the top of the Championship table as they look to avoid a repeat of last season's late collapse, when they saw Sheffield United overtake them in the automatic promotion spots before a heartbreaking playoff semi-final defeat to Derby County.

That was the latest blow for fans after a decade-and-a-half of relegations, financial trouble, catastrophic ownership situations and middling performances on the pitch.

And while hope has been restored under the current regime, Dallas knows that Premier League promotion is what the fans crave - and deserve.

"Just to get Leeds back there would be incredible," said the Northern Irishman.

"It's probably not worth thinking about at the minute because you don't want to get too far ahead of yourself, but to get back there, to get to the Premier League for a club like this would be unbelievable.

"You see what it means to the fans, they've come here week-in, week-out for years and they've had a lot of hurt and they deserve it more than anyone."

Leeds were roared on by their biggest crowd of the season on Saturday, when 36,514 fans were at Elland Road to create a superb derby day atmosphere against Huddersfield Town. Leeds were able to feed on that and put in an excellent performance on their way to a 2-0 win and Dallas was quick to acknowledge the part they played.

"It's massive. We know how much backing the fans give us and it's up for us to deliver. They come here expecting us to win and hopefully they're going home happy."
