‘They told us … to just deny it’: Maryland Cheesecake Factory customer gets slice. Then she opens the package to take a bite

Shrinkflation is hitting everything—even, internet users allege, the Cheesecake Factory.

Known for its gratuitous portions, expansive menu, and interesting interior design, the Cheesecake Factory has been beloved across the country for decades.

However, some diners are noticing changes at the restaurant—specifically regarding its famously hefty portions. Why do some diners think that the chain is skimping out on cheesecake?

Are the Portions at Cheesecake Factory Getting Smaller?

In a video with over 145,000 views, TikToker Toya (@toya_ona) explains why she believes Cheesecake Factory portions have been going down. This is most apparent, she says, in its cheesecake slices.

“Y’all see this?” she asks, holding up a thin sliver of cheesecake. “Y’all see how skinny this piece is? I take one piece off the top half of it, it’s done.”

She then questions if this is a company-wide mandate. She states that, while one can occasionally still get a thick slice, they’re more than likely going to receive a small piece.

“When I get cheesecake, I expect it to be a big fat piece of cheesecake,” she explains. “I’m not thinking about calories at that moment. You better give me everything you got.”

Toya concludes by saying that, for the price, this amount of cheesecake is unacceptable. That said, she says she’ll still happily eat it.

Others Agree That The Portions Are Smaller

On Reddit, numerous users have made claims similar to Toya.

“I’ve been going here since the 90s and I’ve always loved how big they slice the cheesecake. You feel like you’re getting your money’s worth every time and in most cases I’d eat a slice in two sittings or split it with my partner,” reads one post. “The last few times we have gone, no matter what flavor we choose, the slivers are tiny. Is it just our location or are other people seeing the same thing?”

“The last couple of times I got a slice of cheesecake it was about half the size of the usual slice,” observed another.

“I used to work in the bakery and we were always told to plate the big slices and send out the smaller ones on to-go orders,” alleged a third.

What Does The Cheesecake Factory Say?

Cheesecake Factory does not appear to have commented on the issue. That said, one can see if they’ve changed their default portion size by observing the company’s nutritional information over the years.

According to the company’s website, a slice of original cheesecake has 830 calories as of 2025. This was the same in 2022 and 2021.

Curiously, however, a blogger made a post in 2011 containing photos she said were from several years prior. These photos showed the calorie count for a slice of cheesecake to be 665. This means that the slices either got larger over time, the recipe changed, or this particular Cheesecake Factory sold smaller slices.

In short, the reality of the situation is unclear. We’ve reached out to Cheesecake Factory via email for clarification.

@toya_ona I liked that video so fast!! They are 100% making the slices smaller and smaller. @The Cheesecake Factory y’all make too much money for this #cheesecakefactory #cheesecake #food #fyp ♬ original sound – Toya

Commenters Say It’s Smaller

No matter what the nutritional facts say, commenters insist that the slices have gotten smaller, with some alleging they had inside knowledge showing this was the case.

“The cheesecake used to take up the whole box?” wrote a user.

“I worked in the bakery of the Cheesecake Factory a few months ago and they told us the slices were going to get smaller and that guests would probably say something, and to just deny it,” claimed a second. They did not provide evidence for this claim.

“I had to go on their website and submit a complaint after they gave me this,” offered a third, attaching a photo of a thin slice of cheesecake. “I called and the manager told me its the new standard now. This was $13! Im about to go submit a BBB claim too.”
