'They're overrun': Edinburgh woman slams 'heaving' play parks in capital amid school closures

An Edinburgh local has hit out at Edinburgh Council after describing how her local park's play area has been 'overrun' with children during lockdown.

The Leith woman described to Edinburgh Live how both parents and children 'pack' the play park full throughout the day as schools remain closed under the Scottish Government's current lockdown restrictions.

The resident, who wished not to be named, told Edinburgh Live : "Every single day this week the Leith Links play park has been absolutely overrun with children and parents - with many adults not even bothering to distance and kids playing in huge groups together.

"It just seems totally ridiculous given the fact schools are closed right now to stop children mixing whilst there's a super transmissible new strain out there which directly affects them.

"I know it's outside but they're not exactly having their hands sanitised between each thing they touch are they?

"I have no idea why Edinburgh Council haven't done something about it - they've closed everything else. I get kids need to be entertained whilst schools are shut but this mass mixing shouldn't be allowed."

Under current government guidelines no more than two adults from two households can meet outdoors.

Edinburgh Live have reached out to The City of Edinburgh Council for comment.
