"They're just d****": Anger after yobs smash 10 car windscreens on same street

Police are investigating after mindless yobs smashed 10 car windscreens in a single street.

A young mum, who doesn't even live in the area but who was a victim while she visited her friend, labelled the vandals as “d***s”.

It happened on Station Road, in Huncoat, Lancashire, in the early hours of March 5. A resident on Wellington Street, Accrington, also reported a further four windscreens being damaged.

Lisa Ainsworth, who is formerly from Accrington but now lives in Leeds, described the damage was “disgusting”

“I was one of the lucky ones because they just smashed the side of my car window, so I could still drive my vehicle,” she told Lancs Live.

"They’re just idiots.

“They’ve done another street so they’re basically doing the rounds, aren’t they? It’s just disgusting, isn’t it? Who raises these kids?”

Lisa says she actually saw the culprits - described as two youths dressed in black riding on a quad bike - after being woken by what sounded like a car backfiring and then an alarm going off at around 5am.

“I was in the front bedroom and heard a bit of commotion outside,” she said. I saw them doing it. They were on a quad bike and had a crowbar. I thought they were putting the wing mirrors off. Then they crawled past my car and went really slowly.”

Lisa said she heard police sirens shortly afterwards and described the speed of their response as “really good”.

“They were there in five minutes,” she added.

“All the car windows were frosted over and I noticed they had hit mine in the corner so it was a football-sized gash. Luckily I could get home to Leeds as I was worried I was going to get stranded.”

Lisa, who has sons aged six and four, said she was relieved because she runs a business and would struggle to get her boys to school if the car was off the road - but is still facing a bill for repairs plus the inconvenience.

“I can still use the car and I have the means to pay,” she added. “My friend lives on Station Road and everyone has been knocking on each other’s doors. One of the victims is a single mum with a new baby and her car was completely undriveable.

“My friend was really upset because I had gone round to his house and he was hosting. He went down to the shops and counted nine cars they had done all the way down to the shops.

“It’s costing me £115 through my insurance so I imagine it’s costing £1,000 plus [in total]. For a minute of fun. It was just mindless. If that’s how they get their kicks it’s a bit rubbish. They’re just d*cks.”

A Lancashire Police spokesperson said: “We are aware and we are investigating. Patrols have been increased in the areas impacted. Anybody with information which could assist our investigation are asked to call police on 101.”
